Why Danger Symbols Can’t Last Forever respond

What this article shows is that it's really tricky to design symbols that last forever. Some symbols, like a skull and crossbones, struck fear, but now they're more used as Halloween decorations. The biohazard symbol is an excellent example of clever design. It didn't mean anything at first, so that gave it a blank slate to be something, which made it easier to teach people its true danger. They had to come up with something that, in a thousand years from now, would represent danger or radioactive waste. The designers essentially envisioned a wide range of symbols, from terrifying landscapes to radiant cats, as they carry a significant responsibility for safeguarding people. Over time, these meanings can shift or fade, necessitating ongoing adaptation to create new ones.
